| Frequently asked Questions |
How long does it take to install solar? |
This will depend on the size of the system and the type of property you have but as a guide a three bedroom house with two floors and a south facing roof will take between 1 and 2 days for the full installation. Factors that will increase fitting times are things like difficult access to roof and/or attic space; larger heating requirements resulting in more than one panel being fitted; no south facing roof which may require more than one panel; difficult areas in which to make pipe runs. |
How is it fitted to the roof? |
It is fitted over the existing roof surface. Four metal bands, one at each corner, slide under the tiles and are fixed to the main roof beams. |
Does it do central heating? |
Yes, as well as heating your domestic water supply extra panels can assist your boiler in the heating of your radiators or underfloor heating systems. |
I do not have a south-facing roof |
The tubes can be fitted to a south facing wall but the efficiency will be less than on a sloping roof. Alternatively the panels can straddle east and west facing roofs. |
Does it work with Combi boilers? |
Yes, as long as your combination boiler
modulates enegy use - we can determine this for you. |
Does the outside temperature affect the system? |
No, the evacuated tubes act as highly efficient insulators to any collected heat. |
Does it freeze? |
No, the system is filled with a special ant-freeze and all adjoining pipe work is insulated with high efficiency lagging material. |
How much will I save on my fuel bills? |
Our solar installations can save the average household up to 70% on the cost of heating domestic water and further savings can be made on our solar assisted central heating kits. |
How much should it cost? |
Our installations start at around 4500. The 400 Low Carbon Buildings
Programme domestic grant will reduce this to 4100 including VAT.
Larger funding is available to businesses and charities. Please ask for details. |
